Skin Food
Anyone that knows me well knows that I'm a very frugal person. So when I ran out of my face cream I couldn't bare the thought of purchasing another jar of expensive cream... especially because I was wanting to replace it with something all natural that was free of any chemicals. "Natural" face regimes are all the rage right now as they should be, but because of the demand the prices are insanely high! Unacceptably high in my opinion. Everyone should be able to look and feel their best regardless of income level don't you think? So what's frugal girl to do? Well I looked to my pantry for some help lol. I figured if it's pure enough to ingest it's definitely pure enough to put on my skin, so I started to do a little research on different oils. I've used coconut oil on my body for years, but found it too greasy for my face and it clogged my pores which made me break out. I had tried olive oil in the past and it was an amazing moisturizer for my body but I couldn't stand the smell. I'd recently purchased avocado oil to use on salads but had never tried it as a moisturizer before so I figured what did I have to loose? Well, did I ever hit the JACKPOT!!!!!
Through my research I discovered avocado oil is one of the richest sources of monounsaturated fatty acids which has an immediate effect on the texture and appearance of your skin. It's extremely good at hydrating and softening your skin and is also an effective treatment for acne, blackheads, eczema and other types of skin inflammation. Some people even claim it helps to diminish age spots!
I've been using avocado oil for a little over two months now and I couldn't be happier with the results! I've been applying it both at night and in the morning right after I shower. The pores on my nose and chin are visibly reduced and my fine lines and wrinkles have noticeably lessened, so needless to say this is all I'm using from now on. I apply it just like you would an expensive face cream, using it very sparingly. A little goes a long way. The only major difference is you have to give it few few minutes to absorb. If after a few minutes it still seems a little greasy just simply wipe off the excess with a clean cloth and be sure to use even less the next time you apply it.
An added bonus I discovered completely by accident is, if I apply my foundation just before it's completely absorbed, it gives my skin a beautiful slightly dewy finish that makes my skin look like its absolutely glowing and dare I say youthful. I can't believe how many compliments I've been getting on my skin lately. I've always struggled with my skin, I've had hormonal cystic acne since I was a teenager, so needless to say, compliments on my skin are not something I'm used to!
Keeping things simple but also keeping things pretty has always been important to me so an ugly bottle of avocado oil sitting on my tiny bathroom counter was not working for me. So I bought a pretty little soap pump bottle for a couple of bucks, filled it with the avocado oil and placed it on the black lacquer tray I had sitting on the back of my toilet tank. Ugly problem solved and it's super convenient which means I use it regularly because I'm not always having to pull it in and out of the cupboard.
