Better Than Aunt Jemima
In order to avoid the high fructose corn syrup and preservatives that are in most commercially prepared syrups, I combine equal parts of Rogers Golden Syrup and Pure Maple Syrup. Rogers golden syrup is a Canadian brand of syrup made with pure cane sugar using no preservatives or additives. Unfortunately, on it's own it doesn't have that nice maple flavour that we've become accustom to with our typical breakfast fare. My kids don’t like Pure Maple Syrup by itself, they say its too sweet and to thin so what's a mom to do? Well they say necessity is the mother of invention... when I combined the two syrups in hopes of making a healthier version of their fave syrup I discovered that it tasted just like the syrup they were used to without all the processed junk! SCORE! I never told them I changed their syrup and they never asked lol.
